"BROKEN BANK" NOTES OF THE USA: Prior to the Civil War (1861 -
1865) there was no national currency except minted coins. Throughout
America, local banks printed their own banknotes with little or no
supervision by the central government. Over 50% of the banks issuing
currency went out of business, most soon after they issued their
banknotes! Thus, they are referred to as "broken bank" notes.
I offer a collection of 17 different notes (facsimile) dated 1806 - 1869
for only $3.50, or 5 sets (85 notes) for $12.95.
